On the Market: Nurai, United Arab Emirates

July 1, 2008

LOCATION: On Nurai, a 1,400-square-foot island just northeast of Abu Dhabi.

BACKGROUND: Research led Zaya, the developers, to note that luxury developments were relegated to a few select locations worldwide, not including the United Arab Emirates. Intending to fill that gap, they began work on a resort that would provide residents with sizeable pieces of land and privacy.

STATS: Buyers can choose from three residence styles: a Seaside (five bedrooms) or Shoreline (six bedrooms) beachfront estate, or a Water Villa (three bedrooms). All have infinity pools, rooftop gardens, and concealed service quarters. The Water Villas are built on stilts over the water, while the estates reside on land and include private beaches, gardens, and indoor reflecting pools. Residents will have access to such amenities as the private helipad, three restaurants, ESPA spa and fitness center, as well as all services associated with the 60-room boutique hotel.

WHAT SETS IT APART: Nadia Zaal, CEO of Zaya, notes that the design—with architecture and interiors by Studio Dror—contributes to Nurai’s uniqueness. Studio Dror realized Zaal’s vision of an unobtrusive resort by building some estates under sloping grass roofs, resulting in an island that still appears largely untouched.

MARKET INQUIRIES: Prices start at $25 million for a Seaside or Shoreline estate, and $10 million for a Water Villa. +971.2635.4770, www.nurai.ae
