At Your Service: Chic Squad

Amy Finley, founder and CEO of Finley Design, is a self-proclaimed lover of electronics. "But as a designer I don’t like to see them," she says, explaining why Finley Design is involved in every step of a project from the beginning. "We help architects with the overall vision, and take the design all the way down to the bed linens," she says, an approach that allows her team to hide unsightly wires and speakers on paper well before the residence is built.

In Finley’s own Southern California home, Malaga, she hid her entire audio system: indoor speakers behind drywall, outdoor speakers in the eaves or disguised—including two inside her pool—as light fixtures. Coordinating closely with audiovisual specialists and programmers, Finley integrated everything into one system that automates lights and audio, allows residents to upload media and controls the security system.

Finley’s affinity for technology even extends to her art collection. Malaga was the first residential project for Miguel Chevalier—a modern artist specializing in projected art—who designed an interactive virtual garden (top right) for the home. "It looks like the wind from your body is changing the scenery," Finley says.

But her home theater (above left), furnished with a plush sofa and Dodo chairs from Cassina, highlights Finley Design’s ability to integrate. "We didn’t want it to be like you’re going out to the theater," Finley says, "because you’re at home."
