New Zealand claims more Olympic medals from sailing than from any other sport,
and the country’s skippers and syndicates have voyaged to many a victory in the
Whitbread Race and Admiral’s Cup. It is also the only nation other than the
United States ever to win the America’s Cup more than once. Little wonder, then,
that the island nation enjoys similar success in boatbuilding.

Based in the town of Henderson on the North Island of New Zealand, Alloy Yachts
builds custom yachts in aluminum (or “ah-loo-min-ee-em,” as New Zealanders
pronounce it) ranging in length from 100 to 220 feet.
Kokomo, the latest launch from Alloy Yachts, showcases a Redman

area fit

The Ad Lib, a 131-foot motor yacht, garnered the Boat International 2006
Superyacht Award for the World’s Best Superyacht, 30 to 50 meters. The
hull and
superstructure, designed by Dubois Naval Architects, contain a
Donald Starkey
interior composed of a master suite with study and twin
bathrooms, three guest
cabins, a gymnasium, and a salon that seats 10.
The flybridge alone holds a bar,
Jacuzzi, barbecue, and a table that
seats eight.

Among Alloy’s award-winning sailing yachts is the Tiara, which, at 178 feet, is
the largest pleasure sloop ever built in New Zealand. Last year’s Janice of
Wyoming, a sleek 130-foot performance sloop intended for formal entertaining and
business use, is decked out in walnut, cherry, and marble. Featuring a
split-level salon and a stateroom that spans the full beam, the yacht was
created to cruise the world. It has dual retractable anchors and tenders fore

Alloy also builds bespoke fitments, including stainless steel ports and winches, timber steering wheels, and touch-screen monitoring and alarm systems. Having built its first superyacht in 1991, Alloy Yachts has since won 15 international awards, a fine achievement in either hemisphere.
