News: Sportier Tourer
June 1, 2008
Good things come to those who wait, but better things come to those who wait longer. Last year, Maserati sold more than 1,300 GranTurismo coupes and carried a backlog of 2,300 after nine months on the market. This year, however, the Italian thoroughbred is available with a 4.7-liter, 433 hp engine. Dubbed the Maserati GranTurismo S, the new model’s body has been streamlined with sleeker, sportier aesthetics, such as an integrated spoiler, new side skirts, and 20-inch wheels that mimic Maserati’s trident symbol. Most intriguing is a new piece of technology called the MC-Shift—an electronically actuated system—which reduces shift intervals to about 100 milliseconds by partially overlapping the tasks of clutch opening, gear disengagement and engagement, and clutch closing. Capable of sprinting from zero to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds and with a top speed of 183 mph, the GranTurismo S is not looking to take a backseat to other sports cars. It does, however, come with rear seats upholstered with Poltrona Frau leather.
