After several short weekend trips around the Southern California area and a quick journey up to San Francisco, the Audi S8 is showing 24,200 miles on its red, digital odometer. The OE Yokohama tires have fallen victim to the mighty V-10 and Quattro all-wheel-drive system, but a set of Pirelli P-Zeros will be fitted at our next service date—in about 1,000 miles.
21,000—"I love this car!" writes Michael Kirrene, our Web Media Manager. "The S8 has great handling, and I always feel confident and secure driving it."
21,300—No car is perfect. Many of our editors have a problem with the engine’s thirst and claim that the suspension is a bit too tight for the daily commute. But in the words of an Audi service consultant: "That’s why they call it the S8 and not the A8."
21,752—"I was not initially impressed by the S8," writes Colin Gelb, Vice President, Controller, "but the car grew on me quickly. One good press of the throttle and it is evident this car carries a lot of power and its handling prowess greatly outweighs its heavy presence."
23,000—While the S8’s adaptive cruise control works reasonably well, the car begs for more active input from the driver. Steering is responsive, lane change maneuvers direct, and virtually effortless. The S8 shines at freeway speeds, a realm where many other sedans fail to impress.
23,285—"I am amazed at how well this car carries itself in wet conditions," writes assistant editor Paul Meyers, a testament to Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive system.
